Mediation: How is it different? |
 |
 |
 |
Even
couples who have not been able to agree on anything find themselves reaching
agreement with the help of an independent third party - the mediator. The
mediator's job is to help the couple communicate with each other and to
keep them focused on real problems rather than fighting old battles. Still
the pain and sense of loss that inevitably accompanies separation and divorce
is acknowledged. The mediator is also there to provide creative solutions
when the couple hits an impasse and to provide factual information about
the applicable laws. The mediator speaks from experience in suggesting how
other people in similar situations have solved those problems. Through divorce
mediation the real needs of children and parents come before the hurt feelings
and anger of a divorcing couple. We have found that most clients who come
to us are able to work out a solution that they both can live with. |
