Mediation: How is it different? |

Most people on Long Island
are all too familiar with the following scenario: One spouse pays $5000
as a retainer fee to a divorce lawyer. The other spouse is served and gets
his or her own divorce lawyer - another $5000 is gone. Then the letters
and phone calls start to fly back and forth. Over many month the retainers
are used up and nothing has been accomplished. Finally, in frustration and
pain, watching their assets dwindle, the couple meet over a cup of coffee
and settle their differences themselves because they see how much it costs
to keep on fighting. The couple has spent a considerable amount of time,
money and pain - and it is the lawyers who have won. How often have you
